Eldon J. "Bub" Bahl, 82, of 14453 Middle Road, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Bahl farmed most of his life in the Asbury (Iowa) area. He also worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles from 1941 to 1943.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1921, in rural Asbury, son of George and Mary (Heinz) Bahl. He married Loretta C. Siegert on Nov. 23, 1944, at St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Asbury.

He served in the Army in the American Theater of Operations as a member of Detachment 501 at Barringer Field, Puerto Rico. After his discharge, he served on the draft board for 11 years.

Eldon was a member of the Resurrection Church Council for three years. He also served on the Dubuque Township Agriculture Board for 33 years, the Dubuque County Agriculture Board for 11 years and the Cascade Mutual Insurance Board for 22 years.

Eldon "Bub" loved all sports and played a lot of different card games. He was a social person and enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and anyone who would just stop and chat awhile.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta (Siegert) Bahl; three sons, Steven E. (Sandra) Bahl and Mark A. (Michelle) Bahl, both of Dubuque, and Michael J. (Julie) Bahl, of Keokuk, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Brian (Rhonda) Bahl, of Evergreen, Colo., Teri (Kartik) Athreya, of Richmond, Va., Greg Bahl, of St. Meinrad, Ind., Eric (Paula) Bahl, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jason (fiancee, Becca) Bahl, of Des Moines, Russ Bahl, of Dubuque, and Justin and Kelly Bahl, of Keokuk; a great-granddaughter, Uma Athreya, of Richmond; and two sisters-in-law, Marie C. Bahl and Helen Bahl, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Clarence, Andy, Joseph, George, Ed and Wilfred Bahl; and six sisters, Ida Bahl, Marie Keller, Sister Marie George Bahl, Irene Bahl, Sister Alberta Bahl, OSF and Marian Ready.

Memorials may be given to Resurrection Catholic Church and Hospice of Dubuque.

The Bahl family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Sinsky and the staffs at Mercy Medical Center, ManorCare and Hospice of Dubuque for all their tender care and support.
