Dubuque Telegraph Herald Dec. 22,1915; Old Time Resident of County is Dead. John Flynn passes away in this city at age of eight-nine. John Flynn an early settler of Vernon township, and for the past five years a resident of Dubuque. Died at 4:20 o'clock at the family residence, 125 St.Ambrose Street. Death being caused by the infirmities incident to old age. The deceased was born February 3, 1826 in Kilkenny County Ireland. And came to America in 1847, sixty-eight years ago. And settled in Vernon township. Where he continued to live until five years ago, when he moved to Dubuque. In 1860 the deceased was married to Mary Shea in New York city. She died thirty-eight years ago. And in 1886 he was married to Alice Hurley,who, with eight children of his first wife survive him. The children are; Mrs. Joseph O'Brien of Centralia, Mrs. Nicholas Meyer of Devenport,Ia, Misses Mary and Catherine of Dubuque, Thomas of Waterloo,Ia., Martin of Silver Creek, Neb.,James of Vernon township, John of Nome, Alaska. The deceased was a thorough Christian throughout all the years of his long and useful life. And enjoyed the confidence and esteem of a host of friends and acquaintances. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church since coming to Dubuque. And for many years was an attendant at St. John's the Baptist Church at Centralia,Ia. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the residence to St. Anthony's Church. The Rev. Father Peter O'Malley officiated at the requiem High Mass. And also conducted the burial service at St. John's the Baptist Cemetery at Centralia, Ia. He was assisted by the Rev. Father Luke Donlon. The pall bearers were; James McKeown, Edward Dougherty, John Breitbach, John McGovern, James Kinsella, Kern Murray, The out-of-town relatives here for the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Flynn of Waterloo, Ia., Mr. Martin Flynn of Silver Creek, Neb., Mrs. Nick Meyer and daughter Ethel of Davenport,Ia.
