Virgil H. Nauman, age 82, of 4438 Camelot Dr., and formerly of Sherrill, Iowa, passed away at 11:03 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Luther Manor of natural causes. To celebrate Virgil's life friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road, with Rev. Gary A. Mayer presiding. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Virgil was born on April 28, 1930, in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Arthur and Bertha (Riedl) Nauman.

Virgil married Lila Klein on November 14, 1950, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Balltown, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 1, 1997.

He and Lila enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Tri-State Twirlers. Virgil worked the family farm in Sherrill until 1994, when he retired and moved to Dubuque. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

Virgil enjoyed playing cards with several different groups and his time spent at the Lifetime Center. He loved to play Rummikub with the grandchildren. Virgil loved family gatherings and sampling desserts. He was quite a gardener and shared what he grew with friends and neighbors. He was a "people person" and loved to sit on the porch and talk to people passing by.

his children, Gary J. (Kathy) Nauman, Dubuque, IA,
Gene L. (Vickie) Nauman, Lake in the Hills, IL,
Lorie K. (Jeff) Loehr, Moorland, IA;
7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren., Sara (Tim) Nelson and their son John Nelson, Lisa (Carl) Foulker and their daughters Mary Catherine Thompson and Rebecca Thompson, Mindie (Tracy Gosell) Nauman, Katie (Jarad) Alley and their son Tucker Alley, Rex Nauman, Kellie (Robert) Ward and Leslie Loehr .

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lila, 2 granddaughters, Amanda Nauman in 1978 and Melissa Loehr in 2002 and a brother Clarence Nauman in 1929.

A Virgil H. Nauman memorial fund has been established.
