Alfred J. "Fritz" Krug, 90, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of 2818 Washington St., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Krug farmed until his retirement in 1977. He then worked at Holy Ghost Parish for 10 years.

He was born on July 30, 1913, in Durango, Iowa, son of John and Mary (Breitbach) Krug.

He married Catherine E. Ruden on Feb. 1, 1944, in Holy Cross, Iowa. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in February 2001.

He loved to fish and enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Parish.

Surviving are six children, Phyllis (Joe) Glab, of Omaha, Neb., Bonnie (Pete) Stemper, of Marion, Iowa, Lori (Ron) Avenarius and Dave (Debbie) Krug, both of Dubuque, Mary (Mike) Hessel, of Garner, Iowa, and Bev (Mike) Riege, of Vinton, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Veronica Krug and Ann Krug, both of Durango; a brother, Joseph Krug, of Durango; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, on Nov. 5, 2001; his parents; five sisters, Lena Behnke, Katie Behnke, Philomena "Minnie" Riedl, Clara Krug and Mary Krug; and five brothers, John, Peter, Frank, Louis and Alphonse, in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, an Alfred Krug Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center and to Hospice of Dubuque.
