Mark J. Ryan, 78, of 27832 Espinoza, Mission Viejo, Calif., formerly of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Killian's Catholic Church, Mission Viejo. Burial will be at a later date in Culver City, Calif. The O'Connor Mortuary, Mission Viejo, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ryan worked with the office of the Dubuque County Auditor for many years, and lastly with the Iowa Liquor Control Commission.

He was born on May 27, 1925, son of Eulogius and Mary (O'Meara) Ryan, of Dubuque. He was educated at St. Columbkille School.

He entered the Army in 1943. Subsequently seriously wounded in Germany while serving with the 120th Division, he returned to the United States, and was discharged from the military hospital in Springfield, Mo.

He married Glennie "Annie" Quinlivan, of Los Angeles, formerly of East Dubuque, Ill., on Oct. 9, 1976, at St. Raphael''s Cathedral, Dubuque. In 1978, they moved to California, and resided in Mission Viejo.

Surviving are his wife, Annie, of Mission Viejo; and a nephew, Thomas (Patricia) Ryan, of Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Monsignor Kenneth; and a sister, Marie.

Memorials may be given to Hospice.
