Mrs. Harold (Mary M.) Coakley, 84, of 1660 Wingate Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick''s Catholic Church. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main Street, where there will a wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1918, in Dubuque, daughter of Ernest and Bertha (Willging) Schwartz. She married Harold L. Coakley on Sept. 9, 1943, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former Dubuque Pack Co. After raising her children through their formative years, she worked at J.C. Penney Co. for 25 years.

In early retirement, she and her husband lived in Buies Creek, N.C. and returned to Dubuque in 1997.

She was formerly a longtime member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and a member of St. Anthony''s Catholic Church. She also attended St. Patrick''s Catholic Church regularly. She was active in the J.C. Penney Retirement Group.

She loved to play golf, travel and was an avid euchre player. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Harold, a son, William (Deborah) Coakley, of Lakewood, Colo., a daughter, Karen (Robert Laub) Coakley, of White Plains, New York; four grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Coakley, of Hillsboro, Ore., Kenneth Coakley, of the University of Colorado, Andrew C. Laub, of Georgetown University and Meghan C. Laub, of White Plains; two sisters, Bette Kasel, of Dubuque, and Frances Wingert, of Port Angeles, Wash.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalyn Schmitz and Mildred Meyer; and two brothers, Bob and Frank Schwartz.

Memorials may be given to Divine Word Seminary, Epworth, Iowa.
