Irene B. Plein, 60, of 870 Kaufmann Ave., died at 9:17 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1942, in Oxford, Ind., daughter of Theron and Johannah (Berkemeier) Nash. She married Clem Plein on July 13, 1963, at St. Mary''s Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also was a cook at Hillcrest Family Services and Area Residential Care.

Irene enjoyed playing euchre and was an excellent seamstress. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Clem, of Dubuque; her children, Larry Plein, of Murfreesboro, Ind., Maria (Kevin) Bryson and Elizabeth "Betty" (Matt) Loney, both of Dubuque, and Kathleen "Kathy" (Steve) Hoover, of New Braunfels, Texas; a brother, Delos (Nancy) Nash, of Epworth, Iowa; a sister, JoAnn (George) Flanagan, of Winthrop, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ashley and Mitchell Bryson, Sean Hoover and Caleb, Samuel and Jacob Loney; and her special friends, Mike and Maria Schewaga, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
