Clarence A. "Butch" Breitbach, 85, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 2339 Washington St., died at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Breitbach worked as a woodworker at Flexsteel Industries for 43 years, retiring in 1981.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1917, in Dubuque, son of Joseph W. and Barbara (Wagner) Breitbach. He married Eileen E. Cole on June 5, 1940, at St. John''s Church, Peosta, Iowa; she preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 1990.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. He also was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local 1861.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and traveling. He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to polka music. He looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are four daughters, Jean M. Bruce, Dori M. Breitbach and Mary J. (Jim) Leslein, all of Dubuque, and LoAnn M. (Duane) VanHemert, of Des Moines; a son, Ronald J. (Sherry) Breitbach, of Graf, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Helen Sahm and Delores Kotz, both of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff J. Leslein, and a brother, Leonard Breitbach.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002 and Stonehill Care Center, 3485 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
