Alfred A. "Al" Auderer, 90, of 3005 Jackson St., died peacefully with his family at his side at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Auderer worked at Flexsteel Industries for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979. He then worked at the Copper Kettle for more than 10 years after his retirement.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1913, in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Matthew and Margaret (Krug) Auderer. He married Germaine F. Meyer on Sept. 11, 1946, at St. Joseph''s Church, Rickardsville, Iowa.

He served in the Army during World War II in the 32nd Infantry Division, in the Pacific Theater at the Battle of Filla Verde Trail, and in Luzon and Manila.

He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the Upholsterers'' Union and the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

He enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. He also was an accomplished storyteller who put a smile on the faces of his many friends. Al was a very devoted husband to Geri, his wife of 56 years.

Surviving are his wife, Germaine F. Auderer; nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Auderer, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Andrew (Lucille) Meyer; and three brothers, Reynold and Ervin Auderer, and his twin brother, Wilfred Auderer.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.

The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Dall and the social workers, nurses and staff at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center for their care and concern for Al.
