Catherine "Kay" Torborg, 83, of 2145 Deborah Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nativity Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Torborg was a cosmetologist for 50 years.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1920, in Garnavillo, Iowa, daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Wolter) Berns. She married Raymond Torborg on Nov. 6, 1945, in Garnavillo; he died on Jan. 11, 2000.

She graduated from St. Joseph's School in Garnavillo, and the Dubuque Beauty Academy.

She was a member of the National Hairdressers Association, Americlub, Mercy Advantage Club, Nativity Catholic Church and Nativity Rosary Society.

Surviving are two sisters, Rosemary Bries, of Cascade, Iowa, and Rita (Len) Kleis, of Sun City West, Ariz.; three brothers, Leon (Phyllis) Berns, of Garnavillo, Anthony (Mary) Berns, of Buena Vista, Iowa, and Francis (Eleanor) Berns, of Colorado; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Goebel and Lucille Berns; and two brothers-in-law, Leander Goebel and Clarence Bries.

A Kay Torborg Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wahlen and the Dialysis staff, Dr. Dolan and the nurses and staff at Mercy 3 West and Dubuque Nursing and Rehab.
