Bernita Behrens , 92, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 1695 Mount Pleasant St., died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Stonehill.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Steve Garner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on March 30, 1919, in Dubuque County. She worked for the Visitation Sisters Convent, as a cook, and for Stampfer's Department Store.

Bernita enjoyed cooking and was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and always prayed the rosary.

Surviving are her three grandchildren, Shelly (Tony) Lopez, of Reno, Nev., Lisa (Dan) Nicks, of Dubuque, and Dean (Kelly) Behrens , of Davenport, Iowa, and their mother, Phyllis Behrens ; six great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Lyn Behrens .

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Ronald, on Sept. 9, 2011; and a daughter, Margaret.

The family requests no flowers.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill Care Center, and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care they have given, and also to Fr. Ron Friedl for all his visits and prayers.
