Gerald Lee "Jerry" Wieser, 55, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Dubuque, died Friday morning, July 25, 2003, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Richmond.

The Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wieser was a longtime Richmond paramedic, working for both the Richmond Ambulance Authority and the emergency room at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals. His co-workers describe him as a person who was a very caring individual, dedicated to his work and his patients.

Surviving are a son, Derek Wieser, of Oxford, Ohio; his mother, Dorothy (Lyle) Henry, of Dubuque; three brothers, Jeff (Joan) Wieser, of White Bear Lake, Minn., Jay (Carla) Wieser, of Dubuque, and Scott Wieser, of Iowa City; and five sisters, Sue (Lonnie) Cox, of Canadian, Texas, Deb (Rick) Henry, of Carroll, Iowa, Linda (Joe) Gammon, of Santa Fe, N.M., Jan (Dennis) Dodson, of Poolville, Texas, and Sally (John) Hafkemeyer, of Sherrill, Iowa. He also will be missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Wieser; and a son, Terry Wieser.

RICHMOND, Va. - Gerald Lee "Jerry" Wieser, 55, of Richmond, departed this life on Friday, July 25, 2003, in Goochland County, as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Washington Memorial Park.

He served his country in the Navy, served his community daily as a life-saving medic and loved riding his "hog."

Surviving are a son, Derek Wieser; two grandsons, Elijah Jackson and Damien Michael Wieser; his mother, Dorothy Henry; brothers, Jeff, Scott and Jay Wieser; sisters, Sue Cox, Deborah Henry, Linda Gammon, Jan Dodson and Sally Haskemeyer; and numerous nieces, nephews and other devoted family and friends including Melissa Riddle.

Memorials may be given to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 911, Sandston, Va., 23150.
