Mary Hinkel, 74, of 4219 Swan Drive, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Peosta, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Hinkel worked at the General Dry Battery Factory until she started at St. Regis, where she worked for 25 years. She eventually retired from Georgia Pacific.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1928, in Peosta, daughter of Elmer and Marie (Chapman) Gansen. She married William Hinkel on Oct. 2, 1949; he passed away in 1981.

She graduated from the former Dubuque Beauty Academy in 1946. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Surviving are four children, Dianna (Keith) Komprood, of Gratiot, Wis., Doris (Rodney) Wyant, of Centerville, Pa., Duane (Sarah) Hinkel, of Rockford, Ill., and Daniel (Lynn) Hinkel, of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Alicia (Rick) Price, Kirk Wyant, Stacie (Ryan) Stepanek, Joshua Mohr, Zach Hinkel and Hannah Hinkel; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Stephen Machen and Evan Wyant.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Juanita Bergfeld.

The family would like to thank Sue and Sherry from the Dialysis Clinic for all their wonderful help and support.
