Mrs. Leo M. (Dolores M.) Dix, 85, of 3067 N. Grandview Ave., died at 3:59 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be the parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1918, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Lucy (McTaggart) Hefel.

She married Leo M. Dix on Nov. 11, 1935, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1992. She was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker.

Dolores was a member of Holy Ghost Parish. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and camping, but her greatest joy was to be with her family.

Surviving are 10 daughters, Pat (Art) Freihoefer, Joyce (Bob) Hammel, Jeanette (Dean) Rampson, Linda (Dick) Firzlaff, Judy Dix, Marilyn Dix, and Carol (Joe) Powers, all of Dubuque, Barbara (Lester) Cummer, of Balltown, Iowa, Shirley (Dan) Youngblut, of Estherville, Iowa, and Cheryl (Chuck) Noel, of Asbury, Iowa; five sons, Robert (Carlene) Dix, of Lampe, Mo., Ronald Dix, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Richard "Pup" (Pat) Dix, Bill (Patti) Dix and Alan (Sue) Dix, all of Dubuque; 49 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Theisen, of Manchester, Iowa; a son-in-law, Robert Koltes, of Asbury; a daughter-in-law, Sandi Dix, of Dubuque; four sisters-in-law, Iola Dix and Marion Hefel, both of Dubuque, Teresa Hefel, of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Anna Hefel, of East Dubuque; a brother-in-law, George Simon, of Farley, Iowa; a special friend, Maylo Riniker, of Durango, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Dix, at birth, and Dorothy Koltes; a son, Sgt. Daryl Dix; a grandson, Douglas Freihoefer; four sisters, Helen Maiers, Anna Schwirtz, Mary Simon and Rita Howe Brown; and five brothers, Ralph, Joseph, Harold, Robert and LeRoy Hefel.

The family requests no flowers. A Dolores M. Dix Memorial Fund has been established.
