Dorrance J. Rapp, Sr., 84, of 855 Harlan St., died at 5:22 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at the family home, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a Sacred Heart Parish Wake Service at 6 p.m.

Mr. Rapp worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for more than 30 years, serving as union steward for 27 years and vice president of Local 150 Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union, retiring in 1982.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1918, in Dubuque, son of Leslie and Hazel (Daniels) Rapp. He married Rosemary Young on Sept. 24, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on May 14, 1999.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Dubuque AMVETS and the American Legion Post 6.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren in his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed his yard work.

Surviving are a son, Dorrance "D.J." (Paula) Rapp, Jr., of La Motte, Iowa; three daughters, Sandra (George) Lyons and Kim (Richard) Herrig, both of Dubuque, and Jan (James) McDermott, of East Dubuque, Ill.; grandchildren, Chris (Wendy) Lyons, Mark McDermott, Scott Herrig and Jessica Rapp, all of Dubuque, Kelemarie (Jeff) Heath and Amy Herrig, both of Chicago, Tammy (Marty) McClain, of Peosta, Iowa, Ellyn and Eryn Rapp, both of La Motte, and Kaytee Rapp, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Jacob and Sophia Lyons, Dylan, Cameron and Taylor McClain and MaKrae and Alora Rose Rapp; and a brother, Robert Rapp, of Chicago.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

A Dorrance Rapp Memorial Fund has been established.
