James C. Davis, 72, of 2079 Chaney Road, died at 6:58 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service and rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Davis was employed as a plumber for 35 years. He worked the last 10 years at Adams Sinclair Station on University Avenue and will be remembered as "Pops."

He was born on July 10, 1931, in Dubuque, son of Richard R. and Florentine (Reding) Davis. He married JoAnn K. Weland on July 16, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; she died on March 13, 1982.

He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. He served with the Marine Corps in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish; the Dubuque Men's Association; the Pipefitters Union Local 125; the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 5510, of Peosta, Iowa; a member and Past President of the Eagles Club; and a member of the Moose Lodge. He was an avid supporter of Albrecht Acres and was a member of the "Knights of the Square Table."

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and traveling. He was a "socializer" who enjoyed being with people.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane M. (fiance, Marlyn Beckett) Nadermann, of Dubuque, and Terri Ann (Mark) Maas, of Epworth, Iowa; four sons, Charles W. (Kathryn) Davis and James R. (JoLynn) Davis, both of Dubuque, Thomas F. (Kathy) Davis, of Bellevue, Iowa, and Steven J. (Nancy) Davis, of St. Charles, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; a sister, Jean E. (William) Runde, of Dubuque; two brothers, Joseph F. (Judy) Davis, of Dubuque, and Father Charles A. Davis, of Salado, Texas; a special nurse, Jackie Lux, of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Kay Davis; a sister, Mrs. Ted (Evelyn) Martin; and two brothers, Richard (Alice) Davis and Kenneth (Barb) Davis.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002 and Albrecht Acres, 14775 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, Iowa 52073.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kukla and the staff of Medical Associates, the staff of Wendt Regional Cancer Center, Hospice of Dubuque and Jill Majerus for their care and concern for Jim.
