EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Wilbert V. Dietzel, 84, of 1463 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1921, in rural East Dubuque, son of Cornelius and Louise (Vondran) Dietzel. He married Frances Welter on Oct. 22, 1940, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler.

He formerly farmed, drove a school bus and worked in maintenance for the East Dubuque Unit School District 119 until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Dietzel; a son, Dick (Rosie) Dietzel, of East Dubuque; two grandsons, Jeff (Tammy) Dietzel, of Burlington, Wis., and Greg (Dolores) Dietzel, of Mesa, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mitchell; and a brother, Bernard (Rita) Dietzel, of East Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
