Lawrence "Larry" J. Brimeyer, 62, died suddenly in his Mechanicsville home Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. There will be a Celebration of Life at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. There will be a memorial open house on Saturday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the chapel.

Surviving Larry are his wife, Rebecca; their children, Ben, wife Mindy, and daughter Annabelle, Chicago, Ill., and Jeremy, wife Brenda, and their daughter, Molly, Cedar Rapids; six siblings, Jack and wife Liz, Peoria, Ill., Jerry and wife Patt, Urbandale, Ron and wife Leslie, Atlanta, Ga., Connie and husband Wayne Vaske, New Vienna, Dave and wife Judy, Cedar Rapids, and Diane and husband Ron Ungs, Dyersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Carl and Orvelyn Link Brimeyer; and two children, Joshua and Anna.

Larry was born Nov. 21, 1946, in Farley. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1965 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969, and received his Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa. He married Rebecca Perkins on July 31, 1971, in Cedar Falls. Larry had a long career in corrections, including serving as deputy warden at Anamosa State Penitentiary, and most recently was deputy director of Corrections for Eastern Iowa. He was a member of the American Correctional Association, American Probation and Parole Association, and Iowa Correctional Association.

When Larry's sons were younger, he was a Boy Scout master and coached Little League. He served as president of the Lincoln Community High school board. Larry enjoyed traveling and summer vacations with his family. He was a host father to three foreign exchange students, Linda, Sweden, Lynn-Albert, Germany and Christian, Norway. Larry and Becki were avid ballroom dancers. "His glass was always more than half full." He loved and adored his granddaughters, Molly and Annabelle, who were the lights of his life.

In lieu of flowers and green plants, memorials in Larry's honor have been established.
