Mrs. Herman (Helen E.) Burdt, 96, of 2890 Oak Crest Drive, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at home, with her family.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Burdt was formerly employed at Glover Mfg. Co.

She was born on April 6, 1907, in Dubuque, daughter of Warren and Evelyn (Henney) Cushing. She married Herman Burdt on July 27, 1929, in Galena, Ill.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, its Rosary Society and the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Helen liked to crochet in her spare time. She especially loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed time spent with them.

Surviving are three daughters, Evelyn A. (Jim) Henry, Donna J. Burdt and Kathleen H. Kluesner, all of Dubuque; two sons, James J. (Mary) Burdt, Sr. and William F.(Ruth) Burdt, Sr., both of Dubuque; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a special great-granddaughter, Maggie L. Brenner, who resided with Helen; three sisters, Lorraine Becker and Maylou Lange, both of Dubuque, and Darlene (George) Schlegel, of Minneapolis; and a brother, Warren (Rose) Cushing, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Burdt, on June 18, 1971; a son, Very Rev. Eric T. Burdt, OSsT, on Sept. 15, 1998; a grandson, Michael Henry; two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Burdt and Renee Burdt; and a son-in-law, Dale J. Kluesner, on Feb. 14, 1974.

A Helen E. Burdt Memorial Fund has been established.
