Mrs. Erwin (Dorothy V.) Buelow, 91, of 2532 Queen St., died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening, July 5, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services, with her family at her side.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Buelow worked at Dubuque Wahlert High School, where she did custodial work for 30 years, retiring in 1991.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1911, in New Vienna, Iowa, daughter of Anthony and Catherine (Langel) Steffen. She married Erwin Buelow on Nov. 24, 1943, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque; he passed away on June 3, 1980.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Sacred Heart Rosary Society.

Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, traveling, shopping and going to the dog track with her daughters. She loved spending the holidays, especially Christmas, with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are four daughters, Sandie Buelow, Barb (Mel) Green, Linda (Mike) Ansel and Donna (Dan) Tuegel, all of Dubuque; three sons, Richard (Doris) Buelow, of Tioga, La., and Dave Buelow and Allan (special friend, Geri) Buelow, both of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren, Michael (Annette) Buelow, Brian (Angie) Buelow, Jesse, Jerry and Jennifer Green, Melissa (fiancé, Matt Kane) Buelow, Brad Buelow, Michelle (fiancé, Brian Bahr) Ansel, Tonya, Andrew, Jeremy and Nicholas Ansel, Sarah (special friend, Shane Radloff) Buelow and Gregory, Anthony and Joseph Buelow; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Mikaela, Charlie and Aidan; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Steffen, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Hilda Blaser; and two brothers, Victor and Elmer Steffen.

In lieu of flowers, a Dorothy V. Buelow Memorial Fund has been established.
