Loren E. Zihlke, 52, of 3266 Kensington Place, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

He was born on March 7, 1951, in Springfield, Minn., son of Emil and Irene (Krebs) Zihlke. He married Cheri Gross on Oct. 1, 1977, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Loren did volunteer work at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens and was a member of the Dubuque Hosta Club.

He was an avid Minnesota Viking fan. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his dog, "Missy."

Surviving are his wife, Cheri, of Dubuque; two sons, Jeff and James, both of Dubuque; his mother, Irene Zihlke, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters, Linda (Rich) Kehn, of New Ulm, Minn., and LeAnn (Rodger) Martens, of Apache Junction; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emil Zihlke, and his father and mother-in-law, Anthony and Ruth Gross.

A Loren Zihlke Memorial Fund has been established.
