Rudolph C. Beversdorf

Rudolph Cletus Beversdorf, 88, formerly of Dubuque, died Thursday, April 28, 2011.

Per his request, he has been cremated and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.

"Uncle Bud" was born on Nov. 9, 1922, in Dubuque, son of the late Rudolph R. Beversdorf and Anna Leik Beversdorf. He lived in Dubuque for the past 18 years, until he relocated in 2010 to Columbia, S.C., to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Rudolph was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 82nd Airbourne Division in North Africa, Sicily and France. His numerous citations of merit include the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, which he was awarded on four separate occasions. Following the war's conclusion in Europe, he started his career as a chef for organizations throughout the American Midwest and Southeast.

Surviving are a son, Richard (Dr. Joan Wiss) Beversdorf; a daughter, Andrea Mcalhany (Ike); his three grandchildren, Walter Beversdorf, Stevi Aaron and Kelli Mcalhany; a great-grandchild, Emma Roach; four siblings, Albertina Key, Delores Timmerman, Beverley Gregory and Duane Beversdorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Derrick Beversdorf; and a brother, Richard Beversdorf.
