Dennis R. Kitchen, 58, of 3860 Asbury Road, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at home, as the result of cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Chapel at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Asbury (Iowa) Cemetery.

He was born on March 19, 1945, in Dubuque, son of Clifford F. and Dorothy B. (Galliart) Kitchen. He married Connie J. Schmitt on Sept. 28, 1962, at Summit Congregational United Church of Christ.

He grew up in Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1963. He attended the University of Dubuque from 1964 to 1965 and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago, on Sept. 7, 1966.

For the next 18 years, he worked at the former Didesch Funeral Home at 13th and Main streets. On Nov. 18, 1984, he founded the Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, where he served the community for 20 years.

In 2002, he established the Roselawn Chapel and Crematory next to his existing funeral home. He also developed a partnership with Bill Miller to form the Kitchen, Miller & Steinke Funeral Homes in Galena and Scales Mound, Ill.

He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association; Illinois Funeral Directors Association; National Funeral Directors Association; Dubuque Rotary Club of Dubuque; Westside Business and Professional Association; Dubuque Hi-Twelve Club; Dubuque Mosaic Lodge 125; Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce and Graffiti Night Cruisers Car Club.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and profession.

Surviving are a son, Brent R. (Lisa A.) Kitchen, of Dubuque; a daughter, Kimberly V. Kitchen, of Dubuque; his parents, Clifford F. and Dorothy B. Kitchen, of Cassville, Wis.; a step-grandson, Jake Nauman, of Dubuque; and his former wife, Connie J. Kitchen, of Dubuque.

The family requests no flowers. A Dennis R. Kitchen Memorial Fund has been established by his family.
