HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - Lucille K. "Babe" Richard, 78, of 1063 Badger Road, Hazel Green, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with the Rev. Francis Steffen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., where there will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m.

She was born on Aug. 6, 1924, in Dubuque, daughter of Edward and Josephine (Dress) Maeder. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy High School.

She married Robert S. "Bob" Richard on Nov. 28, 1946, in Dubuque. They formerly operated Bob's Recreation Center and Babe's Smorgasbord, rural Hazel Green, which they operated from March 17, 1964, to March 1, 1988.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Kieler.

Lucille loved crossword puzzles and baking and cooking, the bigger the group she cooked for, the better.

Surviving are three daughters, Sheri (Don) Ruden and Mary Kay Buelow, both of Dubuque, and Cindy (Bruce) Schmitt, of East Dubuque; three grandchildren, Melissa Buelow, Jamie Smith and Brad Buelow; two great-grandchildren, Whitnee and Aidan; and her special friends, Sandie Duehr and Mary Hons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. "Bob" Richard, on Feb. 2, 1979.
