Mrs. Viola S. "Vi" Scott, 95, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 1720 Bristol Drive, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the care center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Private family visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1907, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Mary (Hormisch) Schmitt.

She married Eldon McDonough on June 25, 1929, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque; he passed away. She then married Tony Scott on Jan. 23, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Southern California, where she worked at Rockwell International Corp., El Segundo, Calif., in the legal department, retiring in 1972. Mr. Scott passed away on Dec. 25, 1978. She returned to Dubuque to live in 1979.

She attended the former Visitation Academy and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1924. She worked as a secretary all her life and was employed at the former Timea Journal Newspaper, Dubuque Fire & Marine Insurance Co. and John Deere Dubuque Works.

She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and its rosary society; Rose's Ramblers Square Dancers; Happy Hour; Active Senior Citizens; Sageville Senior Citizens; 62 Plus Club; AARP and RSVP.

Surviving are a niece, Mrs. James (Janaan) Kelly, of Dubuque; and a nephew, David M. Schmitt, of Peosta, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leo J. and Clarence F. Schmitt; three nieces; and two nephews.
