SHERRILL, Iowa - Robert M. Riegler, 84, of 21210 Riegler Road, Sherrill, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the home he was born in, surrounded by his entire family.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today. Friends also may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Balltown.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1918, in Sherrill, son of Frank and Dora (Matz) Riegler. He married Dorothy Schloz in 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They would have been married 60 years this October.

He was the fourth generation born and raised on the family farm, which was homesteaded in 1866. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1935.

He farmed for many years and also worked several years with Bill Bohr at the feed store and at Kmart. He was a beekeeper and a member of the German Club.

Robert enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards (especially euchre), but most important to him was his family.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, of Sherrill; his children, Bruce (Mary) Riegler, of Dubuque, and Doris (Roger) LaBarge, of Sherrill; four grandchildren, Amy (special friend, Jon Nizolek) Tigges, Rene (Mike) Kaesbauer, Mark (Julie) Riegler and Mike (Emily) Roberts; a stepgrandson, Scott (Pam) LaBarge; four great-grandchildren, Jack Kaesbauer, Taylor and Abigail Riegler and Ethan Roberts; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Cord and Cecelia LaBarge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark, in 1951; a brother, Harlan; and a sister, Lutilda Sandoval.

A Robert Riegler Memorial Fund has been established.

The Riegler family wishes to thank Dr. Bagby, Lilly and Holly and all the staff at Dubuque Family Practice for their loving care and help these past years.
