Ruth Kane Meyers, 77, of 3274 Lake Ridge Drive, died in her sleep Saturday, June 21, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on July 6, 1925, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank Earl and Regina (Hoefer) Eckstein. She married Dr. Richard Kane on Feb. 12, 1949, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died on Sept. 3, 1965.

She attended Nativity Grade School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1943. She was a member of St. Mary's Mother's Club, Dubuque Dental Auxiliary; and was active in planning reunions for the Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1943.

After raising her children, she worked at Medical Associates and retired in 1989. Since retirement, Ruth greatly enjoyed traveling and recently returned from a trip to Ireland and Scotland.

Surviving are her husband, Paul A. Meyers, whom she married on July 8, 1989; a daughter, Dr. Nancy Kane-Johnson, of West Des Moines; five sons, Terry (Linda) Kane, of Encinitas, Calif., Dr. Kevin E. (Leslie) Kane, of Dubuque, Richard (Mary) Kane, of Minneapolis, Minn., Brian (Rebecca) Kane, of Elk Mound, Wis., and Christopher (Janine) Kane, of Manchester; a stepdaughter, Sandra (Paul) Rossella, of Rockford, Ill.; two stepsons, Stephen (Pamela) Meyers, of Westerville, Ohio, and Scott (Mary Jo) Meyers, of Woodridge, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Nicholas, Keriann, Brendon, Nathan, Hannah, Neil, Ellen and Emma Ruth Kane, and Tara, Kyle and Erin Johnson; 10 stepgrandchildren, Charmaine (Rian) Podein, Andrea and Quentin Sprengelmeyer, Megan, Maura, Shannon, Amanda and Jonathan Meyers, and Sarah and Michael Rossella; a stepgreat-grandchild, Paige Sprengelmeyer; and a brother, Roger (Sherril) Eckstein, of Phoenix, Ariz.

She also was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Sean Kane, and a sister, Mary Jane (Fred) Hantelman.

In lieu of flowers, a Ruth Kane Meyers Memorial Fund has been established.
