Carlton Eugene Fitz, 30, of 2250 Central Ave., formerly of 3232 Sheridan Road, died Thursday morning June 12, 2003, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on John Deere Road.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Summit Congregation United Church of Christ, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

He was born on March 3, 1973, in Dubuque, son of John and Betty (Bateman) Fitz.

He graduated from Central High School in 1991. He worked for Bricktown and Diamond Girls, and was a martial arts instructor at the Dubuque Martial Arts Group.

Surviving are his children, Sierra "Shorty" Benson and Drake Rock Russell, both of Dubuque; his parents, John and Betty Fitz, of Dubuque; two sisters, Tammy (Jeff) Benson, of Dubuque, and Ardeth (Jason) Steffen, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his girlfriend, Alissa Benson, of Dubuque; many aunts and uncles; and a special niece and nephew, Jessica and Jake Benson.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Carlton Russell; his grandparents; and a niece, Alonna Elaine Steffen.
