Christy (Even) Koelsch, 60, of Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Dubuque, died unexpectedly in her sleep on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Santa Barbara. The Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Home, Santa Barbara, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1942, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Virginia Even.

She graduated from Wahlert High School in Dubuque, before attending college at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., the University of San Diego and Mount St. Mary's, in Los Angeles.

She met the love of her life, Joe, in Los Angeles and they married in 1964. In 1968, they moved to Santa Barbara to raise their family, while Joe ran the family's business, Koelsch's Bakery of Santa Barbara. Joe and Christy were inseparable and were frequently seen walking hand in hand. They both enjoyed their many trips to Hawaii and the time they spent in Maui.

Her children remember Christy as a devoted and loving mother. She often made them cookies after school, which they bragged even surpassed those from the family's bakery.

She will be incredibly missed by everyone who knew her. She will be missed the most by her lifelong best friend and loving husband of almost 39 years, Joe.

Surviving are her loving husband, Joseph Koelsch, and their two daughters, Kelley and Lesley.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Sean and Christopher; and her brother, Maurice Even.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the American Heart Association.
