Frank R. Bakey, 83, of 1751 S. Grandview Ave., died Monday, June 9, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1919, in Key West, Iowa, son of John and Agnes (Crowley) Bakey. He married Hazel Henkes in Dubuque.

He proudly served his country during World War II in Italy with the Army.

He was a carpenter and a loyal member of Carpenters Local 678. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 6 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was always there for his family and friends. He has been an inspiration to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Henkes) Bakey, of Dubuque; two daughters, Pat (Leo) Boge and Judie Smith, both of Dubuque; a son, Fred (Patti) Bakey, of Hazel Green, Wis.; six grandchildren, Lori (Phillip) Hellerud, Lynne Kirchhoff, Connie (Tom) Clark, Steven Schmieder, Chris Bakey and Suzie Bakey; eight great-grandchildren, Leah, Joel, Alex, Natalie, Emilee, Brenton, JoAnna and Stephanie; two sisters, Remona Ernzen, of Dubuque, and Sally (Mike) Kirk, of Cuba City, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Pat Bakey, of Carpentersville, Ill., and Marge Bakey, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kimberly; a great-grandson, Chad; four brothers, John, Joe, James and Robert Bakey; and three sisters, Lucille Klaas, Margaret Simon and Laverne Cox.

In lieu of flowers, a Frank R. Bakey Memorial Fund has been established.
