Mrs. Frank J. (Elizabeth M. "Betty") Winders, 84, of 4052 Flamingo Drive, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Mercy Medial Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery, with burial in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1918, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Freda (Thiemig) Peters. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

She married Frank J. Winders on July 2, 1937, in Dubuque, and they celebrated 65 plus happy years together last July. Frank and Betty owned and operated the Sunset Motel on Highway 20 for 12 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed the Friday night euchre games.

She liked knitting and crocheting doll clothes and going to flea markets. She was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very interested in what was happening in their lives.

Surviving are her husband, Frank J. Winders; a son, John F. (Korine) Winders, of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Kelli (Dave) Peters, of Phoenix, Ariz., Angela (Dan) Maro, of St. Donatus, Iowa, Craig (Rachel) Winders, of Avondale, Ariz., Adria (fiance, Joe Pierce) Scheffert, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Amanda Scheffert (Brian Engelhardt), of Elkader, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Holli, Ashley, Hayden and Andrew; and a sister, Evelyn St. John, of Elizabeth, Ill.

She was preceded in death by four sisters.
