Mrs. Delbert (Alice Rose) Manders, 67, of 2543 Windsor Ave., died peacefully at home Tuesday morning, June 3, 2003, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Manders was the head cook at Alverno Apartments for 14 years, retiring in 2001.

She was born on April 4, 1936, in Rickardsville, Iowa, daughter of Harold and Grace (Jochum) Hannan. She married Delbert Manders on May 18, 1957, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville.

Alice graduated from the former St. Joseph's Academy in Dubuque. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and very active with the Power of Prayer for many years.

She loved quilting, gardening and was an avid Hawkeyes fan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Delbert; daughters, Joan (Dan) Fawcett, of Forman, N.D., and Vickie (Steve) Connolly, Cathy Manders, Jill (Mike) McClanahan and Carla Manders, all of Dubuque; sons, Mike (Kathy) Manders, of Laurel, Mont., Mark (Julie) Manders, of Dubuque, and Tim (Kathleen) Manders, of Peosta, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Kay (Leon) Link and Dorothy (Melvin) Brecht, both of Holy Cross, Iowa; a brother, Dick Hannan, of Rickardsville; and three sisters-in-law, Dolores Hannan, Norma Hannan and Carol Hannan, all of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Delmar "Bud," John, Gene and William "Bill."

The family wishes to thank the Hospice staff, Dr. Tom Schreiber and staff, Father James Chappell and Father Harold Drexler for their loving care and support.
