Sylvester J. Oberfoell

Sylvester J. Oberfoell, 84, of 2075 Carter Road, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where friends may call after noon Friday. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

Mr. Oberfoell worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 35 years until his retirement.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1918, in Epworth, Iowa, son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Simon) Oberfoell. He married Orra Mae Bradley on April 26, 1952.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of Resurrection Parish, American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 and the United Automobile Workers Local 94 Retirees.

Surviving are his wife, Orra; a daughter, Debra (Mark) Woodmen, of Bellevue; a son, Gary (Dona) Oberfoell, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Eldon (Martha) Oberfoell and Charles (Joyce) Oberfoell, both of Minnesota; and three sisters, Anna (Joseph) Hess and Kay (Al) Primasing, both of Dubuque, and Mildred Gordinier, of Cross Plaines, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mae Primasing.
