Ruthann Marihart Turnquist, 71, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Banner Gardens Hospice House, Mesa, from heart failure.

Private services will be held in Fort Smith, Ark., with burial in the Fort Smith National Cemetery. The Putman Funeral Home, Fort Smith, is in charge of arrangements.

She and her husband were married on Jan. 7, 1961, in Dubuque. They owned Turnquist Carpets in Dubuque for many years. They moved to Arizona in 1985, where she worked as an office manager for a nationwide sunglasses distributor for years. Upon retirement several years later, she and her husband traveled widely in their motorhome, covering much of the country.

Surviving are her husband, Nels; two sons, Eric, of Fort Smith, and Steven, of Fulton, Ill; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Louise Hantelmann, of Dubuque.
