Duane Earl "Dewey" Ehrlich, 68, of 617 N.W. Beechwood St., Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of 3463 Crestwood Drive, Dubuque, died at 4:29 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Wayne Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Ehrlich began working at John Deere Dubuque Works on July 26, 1960, where he worked as a tool grinder in Department 38. He retired on Jan. 31, 1992.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1934, in Dubuque, son of Earl and Florentine (Welsh) Ehrlich.

He attended Nativity Catholic School from 1940 to 1949, and the former Loras Academy from 1949 to 1953, where he enrolled in the 3-year program of Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He was drafted into the Fourth Armored Division and served in Germany from 1957 to 1959.

He married Wilma Stenzel, of Chicago, on June 21, 1969, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque. They lived at 3463 Crestwood Drive, Dubuque, until April 20, 2002, when they moved to Ankeny.

Dewey was an avid bowler in the Mississippi League and in the John Deere League since 1960. He won first place in the City Tournament in 1974.

His love of cars led him to race coupes and late models from 1962 to 1973 at the Dubuque, Lancaster and Farley raceways.

Duane was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church since his marriage and a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma, of Ankeny; two daughters, Diane Marie (Thomas) Primmer and Susan Carol (Steven) Sprague, both of Ankeny; a grandson, Samuel A. Primmer, of Ankeny; and three sisters, his twin, Doreen Fager, of Dubuque, Sandra Kalnins, of Lancaster, Wis., and Beverly Thomas, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Loras A. Ehrlich; and a brother-in-law, Robert Thomas.

A Duane E. "Dewey" Ehrlich Memorial Fund has been established and may be sent to Wilma Ehrlich, 617 N.W. Beechwood St., Ankeny, Iowa 50021.
