Ronald W. "R.C." Conzett, 62, of 1731 Sarah St., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Wayne A. Ressler and Deacon David McGhee officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Conzett worked at Hy-Vee for 23 years, retiring in 2002.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Dubuque, son of Donald E. Sr. and Christina M. (Lange) Conzett. He married Darlene M. Hanfelt on June 24, 1961, at St. Patrick's Church, Epworth, Iowa.

He was a member of Nativity Parish and its Rosary Society. He also was a former scout leader for several years.

Gardening, yard work and fishing were some of Ron's hobbies. He enjoyed NASCAR races and was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt and the Chicago Bears. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene, of Dubuque; his children, Jim "J.C." (Lois) Conzett, Cindy (Jack) Schulz, Vicky Conzett and Melinda "Sam" (Patrick) Caudill, all of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Amanda, Emily and twins, Andrew and Adam Conzett, Caleb and Shelby Schulz and Logan Caudill; a brother, Donald Conzett Jr., of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Richard Chapman, of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; his parents; and a sister, Jayne Chapman.

A Ronald W. Conzett Memorial Fund has been established.

The Conzett family wishes to thank Dr. Kirk Payne and the staff at Medical Associates and also Hospice of Dubuque, especially Renee and Jane, for the loving care they gave to Ron and his family.
