Mary Ann Canganelli

Mary Ann Canganelli, 58, of 560 W. 11th St., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in her home with family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church where she was baptized and married. Entombment will be in Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1944, in Dubuque, daughter of Robert and Lorraine (Sears) Briggs. She married David O. Canganelli on Feb. 27, 1965.

She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1963 and attended Mercy School of Nursing.

She was a homemaker, and beloved wife, mother, sister and nana. Her family was the center of her life. She found joy in her family, her home, gardening, reading and music.

She lived in Japan, Iran, England, Wales and Egypt and there being, made a loving home for her ever-growing family. The family moved back to Dubuque in 1982.

Surviving are her husband, David Canganelli, of Dubuque; six children, Crissy Canganelli and Kathryn Canganelli, both of Iowa City, and Michael (Julie) Canganelli, Betsy Canganelli, John "Benny" Canganelli, and Richard (Kate) Canganelli, all of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Susan, David, Thomas, Katie Lynn, Anthony, Adelina and Kaleigha; two brothers, Robert "Sonny" (Theresa) Briggs, of Melrose, Iowa, and Walter (Joyce) Briggs, of Dubuque; three sisters, Jean Ann Briggs, of Dubuque, Ginger (John) Healy, of Hazel Green, Wis., and Irene (Russ) Dietrich, of St. Charles, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Lela (Dick) Kernodle, of Richland, Wash.; and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Ann was and is our strength and our inspiration. She will be with us always. We have been and are so very blessed.

Memorial gifts are to be made in her name to a charitable organization of the contributors choosing
