June Hendricks

June Hendricks, 86, of 1088 S. Grandview Ave, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque, with entombment in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1916, in Jamestown Township, Wis., daughter of Val and Loretta (Splinter) Leibold.

She graduated high school from the former St. Joseph's Academy, Dubuque. In June's early years, she enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues.

On Sept. 26, 1939, she married Earl Hendricks, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, Ill. Earl was co-owner of Hendricks Feed & Seed Co., and when not working he was with June at their cottage on Abel's island on the Mississippi in Guttenberg, Iowa. The cottage became the love of her life. She would spend her days fishing, gardening, boating and just watching the river roll by. Earl and June enjoyed many days boating on the river and visiting different destinations along the way.

June was a longtime member of St. Columbkille's in Dubuque, and St. Mary's, in Guttenberg, and always enjoyed attending daily Masses whenever possible.

Surviving are three children, Diane (Jerry) Haugen, of Dubuque, Randy (Kathy) Hendricks, of Dubuque, and Cheree (Kelly) Crandall, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Greenwood, of Farley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene Leibold; and two sisters, Geri Wieser and Colleen Bannon.

In lieu of flowers, a June Hendricks Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Dr. Smith and all her special friends and neighbors on Abel island, Guttenburg, and Glen Haven, Wis.
