Charles J. Schwartz, 76, of 522 Lincoln Ave., died Wednesday evening, May 14, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Schwartz worked at Morrison Bros. for more than 41 years.

He was born on March 2, 1927, in Tarrytown, N.Y., son of Frank and Clara (Streletzky) Schwartz.

He served with the Army during the Korean Conflict and spent some time in Alaska. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of the Machinist Local 1238 and the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque.

Charlie always enjoyed a good game of cards. He was very fond of music and enjoyed listening to his collection of records.

Surviving are a brother-in-law, Merle (Opal) Cox, of Waterloo, Iowa; a cousin, Eulalia "Toodie" Schadler, of Dubuque; two nieces, Rose Candler, of Vinton, Iowa, and Kathy Wrestler, of Wichita, Kan.; two great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary JoAnn Cox, on March 6, 1980.

Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Parish, 2215 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001, and the American Cancer Society, 367 Cedar Cross Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52003.
