Marietta Cahill, 91, of Luther Manor, formerly of 1665 Bies Drive, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. The Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on May 11, 1912, in Bernard, Iowa, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Fischer) Gerdemann.

She married Robert Cahill on Jan. 12, 1936, at Holy Family Catholic Church; he died on Feb. 10, 1978. They farmed in the tri-state area.

She was a loving person who enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, knitting and flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an organist at Holy Family Church, Placid, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Rosary Society in Dubuque.

Surviving are three children, Robert "Bob" (Jonneal) Cahill, Kay Miller and Sharon (Joseph) Meyer, all of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Deborah (Kevin) Cahill Botsford and Steven Meyer, both of Dubuque, Tod Cahill, of Coralville, Iowa, Lisa (Kevin) Perez, of Iowa City, and Daryl Miller, of Manchester; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brianna, Alexandra, Izaak and Elias; a sister, Virginia (Urban) Ruden, of Bernard; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Gerdemann, of Galena, Ill., and Margaret "Peg" Cahill, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Art, Clarence and Jack Gerdemann; and a sister, Florence Steffen.

A Marietta Cahill Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a thank-you to the staff at Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their loving care.
