Sister Barbara (George Mary) Kutchera, BVM, 67, of Milwaukee, formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Milwaukee.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict the Moor Church, Milwaukee. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Schmidt and Bartlett Funeral Home, Milwaukee.

Sister Barbara was on the English department faculty at Clarke College, Dubuque, for 28 years, from 1964 to 1992. During that time she also was involved in many peace and justice initiatives.

For the past 10 years, she ministered in Milwaukee at Shade Tree and the Milwaukee County Jail. She previously taught in Illinois and Waterloo, Iowa.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1935, in Milwaukee, daughter of George and Eleanor (Kimple) Kutchera.

She entering the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1955, and professed vows on Feb. 2, 1958.

Surviving are a brother, Thomas Kutchera; a sister, Kathryn Kucera; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund.
