Donald J. Kopp, 84, of Sunset Park Place, 3730 Pennsylvania Ave., Dubuque, and Trailer Rider Park, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of 1696 Hickson St., Dubuque, died at 9:13 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Kopp was employed as a sheet metal worker for more than 50 years throughout the Dubuque area.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Joseph H and Luella (Reuter) Kopp. He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

He served in the Army during World War II and served with the 94th Recon Division serving under General Patton. He had remained active in the 94th Recon Division Reunions.

He married Dorothy Timpe on April 9, 1942, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church; she died Oct. 3, 1963. He later married Mae Slater on Dec. 17, 1977, in Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1991. He then married Lorraine Abitz on Feb. 6, 1993, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

He was a member of the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 and the Sheet Metal Workers Local 91 and the Retirees. He also was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, the 62 Plus Club and the Emerald Club.

Don was a longtime volunteer and past president of the Washington Neighborhood Tool Library. He also supervised the poll workers during the elections.

Don was an avid euchre player, hunter and fisherman. He was an Eagle Scout from Troop 12 at Sacred Heart School and also a Boy Scout Leader.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine E. Kopp; two daughters, Debra A. Ernzen, of Scottsdale, Ariz, and Diane M. (Roger) O'Dell, of Oceanside, Calif.; a son, Dennis D. (Leta) Kopp, of Washington, D. C.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; six step-daughters, Janet (Lynn Lampe) Schmitt, of Dubuque, Joan Yambura, of Tampa, Fla., Jeanne (Randy) Weber, of Bellevue, Iowa, Jolaine (Richard) Elliott, of Auburn, Wash., Jane (Steven) Winders, of Baton Rouge, La., and Jennifer (Roger) Fischer, of Monticello, Iowa; a step-son, James (Patricia) Abitz, of Dubuque; 16 step-grandchildren and 22 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Tom) Breitbach, of Dubuque.
