LaVerne Brimeyer

LaVerne Brimeyer, 81, of 12679 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, formerly of Sherrill, Iowa, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2005, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Brimeyer farmed in Sherrill and Dubuque. He also worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 25 years, retiring in 1984.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1923, in Sherrill, son of Felix and Anna (Wagner) Brimeyer. He married Marlene Siegert on Oct. 20, 1951, at St. Philomena's Church, Asbury, Iowa.

LaVerne was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, the Iowa Farm Bureau, was a retired member of the United Auto Workers and of the John Deere Retirees.

He loved his family and his farm, fishing for the one that got away, playing euchre with friends and family and restoring antique tractors.

Surviving are his wife, Marlene; four daughters, Carol (Dean) Halverson, of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cathy (John) Cahill, of Blue Grass, Iowa, Barbara (Rick) Menzel, of Big Rock, Ill., and Susan (Robert) O'Brien, of Dubuque; a son, Dennis (Laurinda) Brimeyer, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Brock Halverson, Jennifer (Joseph) Gavan, Jacqueline Cahill, Andrew, Matthew and Meghan Menzel, Michael, David and Molly O'Brien and Julia and Alex Brimeyer; a sister, Delores Hannan, of Dubuque; and a brother, Merlin (Jeanette) Brimeyer, of Sherrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Reynold and Gilbert.
