Callista C. "Cal" Hunt, 78, of 3125 Pennsylvania Ave., formerly of 960 West Locust St. died at 6:21 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, after a short illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1924, in Dubuque, daughter of Charles and Barbara (Grobstick) Rahloff.

She married Marvin R. Hunt on Feb. 19, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Dubuque. She and Marvin owned and operated Hunt Beverage Co. for many years. She was also the cook for the St. Patrick's School lunch program.

She was an active member of St. Patrick's Parish and Rosary Society. She was a eucharistic minister to the shut-ins in the parish and was an active member of the Dominican Laity. She was a member of the Catholic Mothers Study Club and a Bible Study Club.

Callista was an artist. She brought joy to many in her giving of her paintings, afghans and apple pies. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed the time she spent with her "Bingo Buddies." She also enjoyed traveling.

Callista's greatest love was for her husband of 49 years, her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Surviving are five daughters, Barbara F. (Joe) Featherston, of Dubuque, Jane M. (Bob) Mathweg, of DeForest, Wis., Marsha M. (Rick) Voorhis, Simi Valley, Calif., and Mary C. (Mike) Koenig and Laura K. (Christopher) Lawrence, both of Dubuque; two sons, Thomas J. (Ellen) Hunt and Charles M. (Tammy) Hunt, both of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer (Harry) Bemis, Sarah (Greg) Yoder, Abigail Featherston, Callista and Neil Mathweg, Nathan Voorhis, Peter, Paul, Jon, Katie and Sam Koenig, Cara, Emily and Allison Hunt, and Lyle and Lianna Hunt, a great-granddaughter, Megan Bemis; and a niece and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Hunt, on May 24, 1993; and a sister, Dolores O'Hare.

A Callista C. "Cal" Hunt Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Runde and his nurses and the nurses and staff of The Finley Hospital Fifth Floor and ICU, and also Father Barta and Sister Sue from St. Patrick's Parish for their care and concern for Callista and her family.
