LUXEMBURG, Iowa - John R. Ramler, 44, of Luxemburg, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1958 in Dubuque, son of Edmund A. and Helen (Esch) Ramler. He married Rhonda Birkett on Oct. 16, 1982, in Cuba City, Wis.

John was a mechanic at the Ramler Amoco Service Station in Luxemburg. He was a very talented woodworker. He was trusted by everyone and always willing to lend a helping hand. He dearly loved his kids and family and enjoyed gardening, especially his potatoes.

Surviving are his wife, Rhonda; three sons, Matthew, Ryan and Nathan, and a daughter, Kaitlyn, all at home; four brothers, James (Linda), of Dubuque, Fred (Marcia), of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Mary Jo), of Luxemburg, and Gary (Sheryl), of Dubuque; four sisters, Ellen (Duane) Willenbring, of Luxemburg, Rosie (Dick) Kann, of Guttenberg, Jane (Reid) Kuhlman, of Colesburg, and Shari (Ken) Schulte, of Luxemburg; his father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Glenda Birkett, of Cuba City, Wis.; three brothers-in-law, John (Susan) Birkett, of Orlando, Fla., Kurt (Vicki) Birkett, of Milton, Wis., and Brian Birkett, of Madison, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
