Mrs. Margaret Cota, 84, of 3066 Shiras Ave., died peacefully Sunday morning, May 11, 2003, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on July 21, 1918, in Dubuque, daughter of Tim and Louise (McDonough) O'Regan. She married James R. Cota on Nov. 4, 1942, in Pueblo, Colo.; he died on Nov. 7, 2001.

She was employed at JCPenney for many years until her retirement in 1985. She was a proud member of the JCPenney Retirees. She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish.

Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was where her greatest joy was found, she never turned down an opportunity to spend time with her children.

Surviving are four daughters, Sandy (Frank) Ernst, Cindy (Pat) Grace, Mary Cota and Jane (Tom) McLaughlin, of Dubuque; a son, Mike (LeAnne) Cota, of Long Grove, Iowa; grandchildren, Greg, Brian (Sarah), and Brett Ernst, Michelle, Andrea, and Gina Grace, T.J., Lindsey, and Shannon McLaughlin, Jamie, Krista, and Lauren Cota; a great-grandchild, Braden Ernst; and a sister, Bernie Pernhage, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert O'Regan; and a sister, Eleanor Scholl.

A Margaret Cota Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ennoble Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for the loving care they extended to Margaret.
