Dorothy V. Greenawalt

Telegraph Herald - Friday, May 9, 2003

Dorothy V. (Field) Greenawalt, formerly of 187 N. Grandview Ave., died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003.

Private family services will be held. Private burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Bloomington, Wis., on Sept. 27, 1901.

Dorothy taught school before she married. She had always been proud of working with young people. She loved to dance, and as a young adult, she was a dance instructor and spoke often of enjoying dancing into her mid-90s. In the 1950s and 1960s, she worked at Greenawalt Chiropractic Clinic for her sons.

Her proudest achievement was her Bible study group that met in her home for many, many years. Long ago, she professed being a Christian and talked with many people about the saving grace of her Lord Jesus Christ and encouraged so many people to not only read, but study daily the Holy Scriptures.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Monte (Jeanne) Greenawalt, of Las Vegas, and Dr. Tom (Mary) Greenawalt, of Dubuque; two daughters, Mrs. Gayle Beck, of Enterprise, Ore., and Mrs. Saralee (Kenneth) Clausen, of Racine, Wis.; a brother, Burdetter Field, of Wautoma, Wis.; grandchildren, Kent Greenawalt, of Roanoke, Va., Dr. Ronald (Tonia) Greenawalt, of Las Vegas, Mrs. Stephanie (Michael) Kobarth, of Racine, and Mrs. Kimberly (Gary) Williams, of Tulsa, Okla.; and great-grandchildren, Jamie and Kelsey Greenawalt, of Roanoke, Tasheena Greenawalt, Zachary Greenawalt and Dakota Greenawalt, of Las Vegas, and Ethan Williams and Gage Williams, of Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; her husband, Harry W. Greenawalt; and two grandsons, Peter Clausen and Charles Beck.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to Luther Manor.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the professional staff of Luther Manor who have cared for Dorothy since she moved into the apartments and then into the nursing home.
