Anthony J. Gross

Anthony J. Gross, 75, of 2119 Foye St., died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Gross was an electrician at Loras College for more than 30 years.

He was born on June 16, 1927, in Dubuque, son of William and Elizabeth (Nagel) Gross. He married Ruth Vanderah on Nov. 19, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church; she passed away on Dec. 11, 2002.

He proudly served in the Navy as a young man.

He was a man who could fix anything and was always there when someone needed help. He also was a talented musician who enjoyed woodworking, camping and feeding his birds and squirrels.

Surviving are nine children, Ron Gross, Cheri (Loren) Zihlke, Diane (Warren) Haas, Jim (Julie) Gross, Terry (Mary) Gross, Kevin (Sharon Brimmer) Gross and Cindy Welsh, all of Dubuque, Dale (Gina) Gross, of Peosta, Iowa, and Deb (Ron) Jochum, of Durango, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, Jeff and James Zihlke, Joe Gross, Amy and Dawn Haas, Gavin, Garret, Greg and Gwen Gross, Jennifer Welsh, Tim Jochum, Holly Cupps and Tony, Terra and Gabriella Gross; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Christopher Jochum and Ashley Winter; and a sister, Lucille Budde, of Chicago.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Carole Ann and Mary Katherine; two brothers, Donald and William Gross; and two sisters, Evelyn Theisen and Rita Ernst.

In lieu of flowers, an Anthony J. Gross Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Anthony would like to thank Dr. Moran and his staff for all their wonderful care.
