DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Mary Bierl, 99, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Dyersville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Heritage Care Center, Venice.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Ed Petty officiating. According to her wishes her body was cremated. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1903, in Templeton, daughter of John and Gertrude (Fox) Horbach.

Mary and her husband owned and operated the Gamble Hardware and Furniture Store in Dyersville.

She moved to Venice in 1965, where she made her home until her death. She was a member of the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Hittenmiller, of Venice, and Delhi, and Norma Maiers, of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Joyce, of Dubuque, and Rita Rupiper, of Carroll; and a brother, William Horbach, of Templeton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1978; and three brothers, Nick, Jack and Joe.
