Lyle M. Parker

Mr. Lyle M. Parker, 74, 2725 Monastery Road, formerly of 3325 Foothill Road, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

As a young man he worked for six years for the former Mulgrew Coal Co., and in 1957 he went to work as a salesman for the Trausch Baking Co., from which he retired in 1981.

He was born on June 28, 1924, in Dubuque, son of Max and Angeline (Richter) Parker. He married Lorraine L. Weber on June 28, 1944, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He grew up in Dubuque and attended Dubuque Senior High School. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, the teamster's Union General Drivers and Helpers Local 421, and was a 50-year member of the United Commercial Travelers. He also was a member of the Tri-State Independent Blind Society.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine L. (Weber) Parker; two sons, Gary (Pam) Parker, of Sherrill, Iowa, and Robert (Charlene) Parker, of Waukarusa, Kan.; two daughters, Lorinda Steinberg, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Laurie Specht, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Lisa (Wayne) Lynch, Richard (Renee) Parker, Clayton (Shawn) Specht, Jason (Shelbie) Specht, Tim (Nicole) Specht, Angie Specht, Tom Specht, Stacy and David Steinberg, Mike (Molley) Slater and Jennifer (Carl) Quilliams; 16 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Max Parker, William (Joyce) Parker, and Jack (Sally) Parker, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Vi) Millius and Janet Cheever; and two great-grandsons.
